40 Day Prayer Commitment Day 30

Philippians 2: 1-3

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ,

if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,

then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.

Is there possibly anything I could expound upon these clear instructions Paul gives to the Body of Believers in this letter of encouragement?

I think it's useful to continue reading into the next few verses of this letter (starting at vs 5), in which Paul poetically explains the Way of Christ, and the reason for us to model it:

"In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father."

If you have people in your life you are trying to reach with the Gospel, and if you are wondering how you can offer more to your church, start by being an example of Christ. Modeling Him will magnetize others, for Paul says here that in His name, EVERY knee shall bow and tongue acknowledge His Lordship. His truth is undeniable.

Worry not so much about how you come across as an evangelist, or how much time you give to this or that project. Paul says to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit - this includes the "good" things you are trying to accomplish too!

I've heard it said to me sometimes, "Get out of your own way!" Perhaps believers could say that same phrase to each other as "Get out of Christ's way." Model Christ and let Him speak through you. Use the limited words or time you have to simply BE Christ, and the rest will follow.
