the history of pbs

Promise Bible Study started out 5 years ago as a small group of women meeting in Upstate New York, going through the “3 P’s” in scripture, as detailed below. Having reached the 3rd P - the exponential - PBS expanded outside the living room meetings by building a website and developing a 40 Day Prayer commitment as a way to reach out to other groups and ministries to unite in common prayer/worship. The experience was so powerful that it became an annual event. The project continued to grow, and in 2020 PBS joined with Global Ministries and Relief, receiving more support and the ability to reach ministries and individuals globally. The video below is our original invitation, which remains relevant despite our evolution, as it contains our core message: that all of this is an effort to be a joy to our Heavenly Father, and to join in unity as brothers and sisters, bearing witness to the Gospel through this joy, and by experiencing His Promises:

the promise bible study method

Promise Bible Study is intended as a 3-tiered investigation of the Bible in its entirety, successively taking you deeper each time through.

P1...Living His PROMISES

P2...through a life of PRAYER

P3...filled with POWER from the Holy Spirit

Tier 1: Promise

The Bible is full of God's promises to us. When we intentionally investigate these promises, in both the context of the surrounding verses and the Bible in its entirety, God's love for us is revealed in radiant clarity, and the plans for His people are clearly demonstrated.

By bringing awareness to all of God's promises, we awaken to the full knowledge and understanding of what it truly means to be a believer in Christ: A receiver and participant in God's Greatest Promise - Salvation.

Tier 2: Prayer

For our second cycle through scripture, we go deeper. This time, we focus on specific prayers throughout the Bible - who offered them, why, how they were used, and how we can apply them today. We also begin the practice of praying the Word itself.

The second study is also about "duplication." Having knowledge of God's promises within our hearts and minds, we can now illumine our immediate sphere of influence - praying for, serving, and bearing witness to friends and family. By doing so, we build our "prayer muscles" and strengthen our communicative relationship with God.

Tier 3: Power

The third cycle takes us to the exponential level, radiating further into our extended communities, and deeper into the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit within us. The aim of this cycle is to find and develop your personal ministry as an individual, and bring those skills and services to a wide and broad audience. It is the culmination of the previous two tiers, putting it all into practice.

 THE 40 DAYS OF PRAYER

For the past 5 years, Promise Bible Study has joined with churches, faith-based organizations, and individuals around the globe, we share a common devotional for 40 consecutive days during the season of Lent, leading up to Easter, Resurrection Day. There is power in coming together as one heart and mind, meditating on His Word in unity. Each year a particular theme is focused upon, such as the names of God, the Red Letter words of Christ, and passages from the Psalms.

THE 31 DAY OF PRAISE

In addition to the annual 40 Day Prayer Commitment, PBS offers a space in which we can all share our Praise Reports and celebrate as a community God’s faithfulness and fulfillment of His promises as we experience them, many times in relation to our journey through the 40 Days. All are welcome to contribute to a growing list of encouraging and miraculous testimonies - “big” and “small.” We receive inspiration, hope, and confirmation by listening to each other’s gratitude for God’s goodness.

"We are extremely pleased that Sharon Fletcher - board member and part of our GMR 5:17 Prayer strategy - has taken the initiative to develop the Promise Bible Study website. We would like to encourage and inspire people to get involved to pray. We would also like to reach out to all of our partners, students and GMR Associates to join in this venture. "
