Promises Week 10:
Deuteronomy 33 - Joshua 21
…delighting in Him and His Word…Psalm 37:4
Deuteronomy 33:3, 12 and 27 to 29 The Blessing of Moses – He holds us in His hands…He shields us…and we can rest in Him…He is our refuge and He offers us His everlasting arms and favor…
Joshua 1:5 and Hebrews 13:5 – He will never leave us or forsake us. The Old Testament promise to Joshua became the basis for the parallel passage in the New Testament. We can celebrate the fact that Our Heavenly Father is the same yesterday, today and forever and that He will always standby His promises.
The book of Joshua teaches us a great deal about the kind of courage we need if we are going to fight for God’s promises and enjoy the blessings He has for us. Like Joshua we have to be strong and courageous and inspire others to be bold as well.
Joshua 5:9 states that the Lord has rolled away the reproach… The word reproach means blame, disgrace or shame, the very things that keep us wandering around in our inner wilderness. Reproach is a tool of the enemy to keep us away from God’s best for us. The bible tells us that we are joint heirs with Jesus. He earned our blessings for us by carrying our reproach to the Cross. Let God roll that reproach of you and experience the freedom from shame that Jesus died to give you.
Joshua 5:10 – 12 The Lord’s promise and provision of manna merged with His promise of provision from the Canaan. We can rest in the confidence that He will always provide.
Joshua 21 – FAITHFULNESS. In verses 43 to 45 we witness the fulfillment of the Lord’s promises to the Israelites. Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every promise was fulfilled. We can celebrate the Lord’s faithfulness in our own live by (i) acknowledging His faithfulness in our lives; (ii) sharing His faithfulness as part of our testimony and story; (iii) all to His glory.
In these chapters we certainly see that Joshua fought many battles in order to enter the Promised Land but the Lord led him through it all. We have to submit to God and listen for His direction all along the way. Just as Joshua had to be of good courage so it is with us. Courage means having a good attitude (God attitude) in the face of dangerous or frightening circumstances.
Week Eleven: Joshua 22 to Judges 17
