Promises Week 20:
II Chronicles 10 - 33
…delighting in Him and His Word…Psalm 37:4
After last week’s study I continued to search for understanding on David and Solomon’s stories. We see time and time again in Scripture reference to David having a heart after the Lord. The Lord forgave David for his transgressions and forgot – left out of Chronicles David’s errors. The Lord blessed David based on relationship. Solomon was similarly blessed – often times based on his father David’s relationship with the Lord. Solomon’s greatness ended in waste as he failed to sustain and develop his own personal relationship with his Heavenly Father. The basis of our PBS is to encourage, support and embrace each of our own individual relationships with the Lord. Studying the Bible, understanding Scripture – the Promises and developing and intentional prayer life…
II Chronicles 10:8. Rehoboam’s error. But the king forsook the counsel which the old men gave him and took counsel with the young men. . .
II Chronicles 12:12. The Lord Favors a Humble Heart.
II Chronicles 13:8 The Golden Calf. Aaron made to take the place of Moses – not the Lord…the people were looking for someone to lead them as Moses had been away for such a length of time…a conduit to God as Moses had been for them….
II Chronicles 14:11. King Asa’s Prayer. Asa took down the high places = rest and peace. Asa was fearless as he prayed and the Lord provided victory…because their eyes were on the Lord. Yet even Asa’s faithfulness was corrupted because of compromise.
II Chronicles 15:7 and 8. Be Strong…your work will be rewarded. It took significant courage to destroy the idols…we need to do the same – purging our own “idols” from our own lives and hearts. Idols can be many things, including our own opinions.
II Chronicles 20:7 Friendship. Abraham is considered a friend of God. We too can share a friendship with the Lord as set out in John 15:14 if we obey and seek Him first. Vaughan Jarrold preached on 4 levels of friendship – acquaintance - casual – friendship/fellowship – intimate friendship/fellowship…
II Chronicles 20:15 The battle is the Lord’s. This is such a comforting PROMISE – we just need to allow the Lord to be in charge. 20:17 You shall not need to fight in this battle; take your positions, stand still, and see the deliverance of the Lord
II Chronicles 20:21 His LOVE endures forever…
II Chronicles 26:5 – Include your own NAME. As long as ___ sought the Lord, God gave her success. This is a compelling motivation to finish strong…it is never too late to be who you might have been believing in the restorative power of the Lord.
II Chronicles 32:7 Look to the Lord. When the Assyrians came in great strength to invade Judah and lay siege upon Jerusalem, King Hezekiah inspired the people with words of encouragement to trust in the Lord. That is the same attitude we need to have in the face of seemingly overwhelming problems. Rather than looking at our past failures, our present fallacies, or our future fears, we need to be looking to the Lord and trusting in His wisdom, strength and power. Remember the One who is with us is greater than ALL those who oppose us.
