Promises Week 19:

I Chronicles 19 - II Chronicles

…delighting in Him and His Word…Psalm 37:4

I and II Chronicles.

The books of Chronicles give a divine retrospect of the ups and downs in Israel's history and the history of mankind as well as God's ways with men. The reign of King David and Solomon as well as their successors are the main subject of the Chronicles. Both David and Solomon form a joint picture of Christ as rejected, suffering, glorified and reigning king. Therefore David and Solomon's trespasses (David's adultery with Bathsheba and his murdering Uriah and Solomon's idolatry) are not mentioned. The books of Kings have a moral perspective and stress the human responsibility. The teaching of the Chronicles has an emphasis on God’s grace.  The future of Israel paled in light of its glorious past, especially the time of David and Solomon. The Israelites return to Jerusalem carried their present poverty brought hurtful memories about what was forfeited by God’s judgment on their ancestors’ disobedience with the knowledge of the Lord’s forgiveness and provision to set them back in the Land of Promise.  In this Promise Bible Study we too need to remember – remember the Lord’s PROMISES to the Israelites and to us if we believe and obey - as an encouragement to be faithful our Heavenly Father.

I Chronicles 19:13.  Be strong and fight bravely…the Lord will do what is good in His sight – this verse encourages us to service.

I Chronicles 21:20 – 25 Small Beginnings.  Never despise small beginnings.

I Chronicles 22:13 and 28:20 The Lord will not Forsake Us.  David made extensive preparations for the Temple and provided them to Solomon – who was privileged to actually build the Temple.  The task was overwhelming and took 20 years (with the Solomon’s own palace).  If we have a difficult task – the Lord will similarly provide – and David’s promise applies to us:  The Lord God will not fail you or forsake you, until you have finished all the task.

II Chronicles 7:12-22 and Matthew 6:33 Setting our Eye on Him.  While Solomon’s eye was set on the task the Lord blessed him.  We similarly need to put the Lord first in our lives – in all aspects of our life.

II Chronicles 1:11 and 12 Request for Wisdom.   We too can ask for wisdom see James 1:5 and 6.

Meditate on the Lord’s goodness – His faithfulness, His plan for your life, His Glory and His PROMISES.  Meditate on who HE is and you will come to know HIS character and HIS desire for you in a deep fresh way.
