Promises Week 6:

Leviticus 17-Numbers 7

…delighting in Him and His Word…Psalm 37:4

Leviticus 25:8-end – Our Year of Jubilee.

Leviticus 25:10 God says "And ye shall hallow the FIFTIETH YEAR, and proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof. It shall be a JUBILEE unto you..."

These are the sum of the parts that make up Jubilee: The 7th day is a Sabbath rest day and the 7th year is a Shmita (Hebrew meaning "release") a Sabbath rest year, and the 7th Shmita is the 49th Sabbath rest year with the 50th being Jubilee... then the cycle starts all over with the (50th year being the first year of the) next cycle. Jewish rabbis have been celebrating Shmita years ever since Israel became a nation in 1948.

Last Shmita (49th year) of this cycle; September 25, 2014 - September 13, 2015. Jubilee year September 23, 2015 - October 11, 2016.

LIBERATION IS THE CENTRAL THEME OF JUBILEE.

The word “jubilee” in the Old Testament is from the Hebrew word “yobel” or yovel” meaning “a ram’s horn, trumpet” or “coronet.”  If someone announced the Jubilee, they would be actually blowing a trumpet and all of the congregation of Israel would be able to hear it.  The Year of Jubilee was special to Israel as we willl read about in Leviticus and see if there is any significance or symbolism for the Christian today.

The word "jubilee" is derived from the Hebrew word jobel, which means "ram's horn"; since it was the horn which was used as a trumpet, whose sound indicated to everybody the beginning of the jubilee year. The book of Leviticus, in the code of holiness, is the source which tells us of the significance of the jubilee year, a year of liberation "par excellence," which is at the end of seven weeks of years, the fiftieth year.

The Jubilee year contains many of the pictures of our salvation.  Just as the land, the people, and all the property was released, so we too have been released from a debt that we could not pay (our sins).  We were once slaves to sin but now we’ve been released, once held captive but now set free.  Christ’s blood has atoned for our sins and satisfied the wrath of God that was due us and as the land was given rest, we too have entered into His rest from all of our works for we could never save ourselves by our own works because salvation is fully a work of God.

This is a year of real CELEBRATION…happy JUBILEE!

Leviticus 26: Visual Lesson on Obedience.  Page 126 of the Promise Bible is a beautiful visual of how the Lord’s PROMISES are tied – hand and hand – to our OBEDIENCE.  There are 28 “P”s marking 28 promises on this single page demonstrating the reward of obeying the Lord’s commands.  To achieve full fellowship with our Heavenly Father our walk must be pleasing to Him in full harmony of thought, desire and action.
