DAY 40

Romans 6:44 We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Our old selves have passed away, we are NOW new creations in/through Christ.  God has given us the power and ability to walk in newness of life with authority and peace in Jesus’ name.

DAY 39

Esther 4:13 & 14  Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “Do not think to yourself that in the king's palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews.  For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Lord, guide my heart to fulfill Your Kingdom assignment and the purpose You have for my life.   I humbly bow before You and ask for Your direction and guidance, as well as Your courage to live out the calling You have given me.  Equip me and use me.  In Jesus’ Name.

DAY 38

John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

At the CROSS:

Jesus expresses His LOVE of the Father when He:

  • Triumphs over sin.

  • Fulfills God’s redemptive plan.

  • Secures salvation, a personal relationship with the King of kings, for all those who believe.

Jesus shows His love to humanity when He:

  • Serves as a substitute and satisfies the penalty for our sin.

  • Provides there is no further condemnation for those who believe.

  • Offers the promise of eternal life with Him in heaven.

Let us LOVE Him in return.

We show our love to Jesus through our obedience.

  • Knowing our weakness, Jesus’ LOVING promises in verses 16 to 21, to ask the Father to provide the Helper (the Advocate, Teacher, Comforter, Spirit of Truth) to guide us IN TRUTH and to be with us forever (we will never be left as orphans).

  • Let us listen and depend on the Holy Spirit for direction in humble obedience and LOVE for Jesus.

John 14:16-21 - 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see Me anymore, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love them and show Myself to them.

DAY 37

Matthew 25:23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

MAKING HIM PROUD

Robert wore his story with confidence.  His broad shoulders told of his years of service to his country in World War II and his devotion to his family.  His voice trembled at times as he shared with me how he left high school to join the army in 1943.  On his return he immediately enrolled back in school only to withdraw again to support his family after the untimely death of his father.  He smiles, twinkle in his eye, as he remembers, six decades later, receiving his high school diploma.  “It took me forever to leave the school,” his smile deepens, “with all the congratulations.”  Later, speaking with his son, I reflected on how he and his brothers must be so proud of their dad.  He agreed quietly and in a thoughtful voice said “I just hope he is proud of me.”

A child’s chief ambition is the affirmation of his or her parents.  C.S. Lewis writes of this desire in his essay The Weight of Glory.  How do we please our Heavenly Father?  How does God notice us?  Can we really make Him proud of us?  Paul provides the answer in his letter to the Corinthians (I Corinthians chapter 8 verse 3).  To those who love God – they will be known by Him.  In order to be part of God’s family and welcomed into His presence we need to truly love Him.  To love him solely and completely, denying all others.  We need to keep our eyes on Him (Colossians 3) and His purpose and rest in His loving embrace.

The most important two words we will ever hear will be “WELL DONE” spoken by our Heavenly Father.  It will be my greatest joy to hear those same words spoken to you – and to know you have in deed made Him proud.

DAY 36

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for His name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for You are with me;
    Your rod and Your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall  not want…

To want is a human tendency… but we lack nothing when we acknowledge that the Lord is our Shepherd, our Keeper.  If we get to the point that we realize He fulfills our every need, we rest in His perfect peace, lacking nothing.

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me…

As time goes by and I move closer to leaving earth, I realize that in every moment of time, He has been there for me.

We are never alone.

DAY 35

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

Let us intentionally choose to trust Jesus, from the center of our being – with all our heart, to find our hope, purpose and direction in Him.  As we acknowledge and fellowship with Him our relationship deepens, and we will find our JOY in Him.

DAY 34

Romans 8:18  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

This verse reigns near and dear to my heart.  And I can’t mention this verse without the second – Romans 8:28 (see DAY 17 above).  It’s never pleasant to go through a hard time or difficult circumstance.  Often times we may look for a “reason” as to why things seem to be falling apart.

That is the beauty of these verses.  It doesn’t matter what you’re going through.  It doesn’t matter what hardships you may face in life.  If you believe in God, you can trust in His Word.

His Word says what you are going through is nothing compared to the good plans He has for you.  And His Word says even when you face a difficult time, He can turn curses into blessings.  - PBS Community Member

DAY 32

II Corinthians 12:9 & 10b  …“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me …For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Day 30

I Corinthians 15:1-6 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,  that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,  and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.

This passage helped ground me in the beauty of the Gospel.  In times of doubt, frustration, apathy and struggle, I was reminded of Christ’s humble sacrifice.  Christ saved me from an eternity apart from Him, and this was the cost.  These verses provided a renewed confidence in Christ that I desperately needed. - PBS Community Member

DAY 29

Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

This verse holds a wonderful promise of the Lord’s faithfulness and love for us.  We are indeed created for a purpose and relationship with our Heavenly Father.  It also serves as an encouraging reminder for us as we mentor those the Lord has placed in our life. - PBS Community Member

DAY 28

Nehemiah 6:15  So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days.

Nehemiah 6:15 has impacted me so much for the following reasons:

-       Nehemiah who was not a politician, rabbi, prophet, or a trained leader, but despite this, he was able to lead a demoralized remnant to rebuild a destroyed city in 52 days.

-       Nehemiah led the people to rebuild the city, which was under constant harassment and attack from their enemies. He was never trained in the science of warfare; he had never served in the military, and yet he was able to withstand the barrage orchestrated in hell to stop them.

-       Nehemiah had never been trained in city engineering, construction, or architecture, but he was able to oversee the rebuilding of a destroyed city, in just 52 days.

-       Nehemiah was a deeply spiritual man, but he was not known as a prophet or a rabbi, but he was able to reawaken lost faith and restore the spirituality of a nation.

-       Nehemiah was not trained as a politician, he was a cupbearer, but he was able to negotiate with the King of Persia for permission to go and rebuild a city that his people had conquered. His loyalty to the king was challenged by his enemies, but with great skill he was able to sustain his relationship with the king.

Nehemiah was a fairly ordinary man and yet he was able to do an extra-ordinary work.

When you take ordinary, and you add extra you will get extraordinary. He added extra to his ordinary life, and he was able to take on something way bigger than himself.

DAY 24

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

This verse is a declaration of God's support and presence in the lives of His followers. It addresses fear and discouragement, two common human experiences, by reminding us that God is always with us, providing strength, assistance, and a firm foundation to stand upon. The mention of God's "righteous right hand" symbolizes His power and justice, reassuring believers that they are under the protection of the Almighty.

DAY 23

John 17:21 & 26  that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.  I have made You known to them, and will continue to make You known in order that the love You have for Me may be in them and that I Myself may be in them.”

DAY 22

Philippians 3:7-9a But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him…

This verse has continually challenged me to truly treasure Jesus over created things.  I am reminded of the truth that simply knowing Christ is of surpassing worth and value.

DAY 21

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For most of my life I have struggled to understand that God is approachable and gentle.  These verses have opened my eyes to these attributes of our Heavenly Father.
